I will take exception to some of the posters I respect most (oops -- creeping kumbayahism!) and say that I don't care if people think I'm not secure/comfortable with myself/non-masturbatory enough to not care if ratings are turned off. I like to think I earned my ratings with my occasionally witty commentary, both on the board and at meet-ups. And I'm not afraid to admit it.

So that makes me better than all you bitches, because I'm at least honest about my need to have my existence validated by a bunch of freaks from the Internets. Rest of y'all just posin'.

I look at the ratings like layers of stratus to a geologist. There's references in there from long-forgotten threads (or simply posts) that stood out in such a way as to move the rater. It's more for historical record than the ratees themselves.
