Recently, I was watching a hater-board that I frequently read implode on itself under the intense strain of a self-involved (but intelligent and funny) narcissist being an overly pedantic attention whore. I thought, "Goddammit. This shit better not get Xena-ed."

I was just thinking about this, too. This place used to be a hotbed of activity for people who like to bitch about all sorts of things. Nowadays, the only board with any constant activity is the politics one.

Kids have their YouFace pages and internet Twats for registering their disgust about the crappiness of reality TV and other injustices of life. They update their status and all their "friends" that they never see in real life know that they hated last night's Project Runway. By the time they browse over to PS, its been tweeted and retweeted 100 times, and now its old news.

I'm afraid the ol' message boards are heading the way of the newspaper.

As Dick Clark said around 1985, there will never be another Beatles again. There are too many venues and channels and stations for one thing to unite people in conversation. Reality TV used to be a little mom and pop shop, now it's a freakin' Starbucks.

Not only that a lot of the old regulars have aged (like me) and I know I can't even stand to watch RW any more. KA1A was annoying as fuck but at least she was fun to make fun of. I can barely tell any of the new casts apart, and don't even get me started on the hour format.

The plethora of reality shows has both beaten us down and made us immune to their twisted charm (and by "charm" I mean head-spinning stupidity). RW is a blur of drunken people yelling drunkenly at each other, with no new personalities to poke fun at. Survivor is on "lather, rinse, repeat" mode (do you know there are talks to make NEXT season a "Robfather vs. Russell the Troll season?"), and The Amazing Race has apparently decided that people with personalities (even objectionable ones) need not apply to make room for the vacuous.

What can we say that hasn't already been said?

I do hear there is something to those "Real Housewives" shows. I haven't watched any, and now there are so many I feel somewhat overwhelmed at the thought of picking one up now. If I start watching one, which city do I pick? The OC wives are my homeboys, and the original wives, but I don't know if I want to watch idiots from my own area. It might annoy me more than it would entertain me. I'm slightly curious as to why that no-lipped bitch Bethenny is a breakout star that gets her own show, but I just don't know if I have the energy to follow the NY broads. I think the reason I haven't watched up to now is that I have a real problem with making quasi-stars out of entitled bitches who contribute nothing to society. It was one thing when the 20-somethings of RW were doing it, but now we're talking about women in their 30s and 40s and it's just depressing.

Pitty's been working for the mouse for the last year. Jillybob is probably busy beating up on narrow-minded idiots.
